Jan and Evelien Roggeveen-van Duijn are the proud owners of the hotels: Two Brothers Noordwijk Beach (formerly Golden Tulip) and Golden Tulip Zoetermeer-Den Haag. The name refers to Jan and Evelien’s two sons. Two boys who each have their character and form of autism. In this phase of their life, the latter inspired the hotel owners to do something special for otherwise gifted children.
“It’s given us a different kind of insight, both into parenthood and the daily operations of our own company. This gave us the idea to create learning, internship and workplaces for young people, who are gifted differently, but at the same time possess normal intelligence. From our own experiences, we know what these youngsters need in terms of challenges and guidance,” said Jan and Evelien Roggeveen-van Duijn.
While the hotel in Zoetermeer is still a part of the franchise, both hotels carry out Jan and Evelien’s new mission. At different departments within the hotels, young people with a form of autism work along with our daily operations. A supervisor of the department in which they work guides them. To ensure that counsellors provide the proper guidance, the hotels communicate closely with any eventual guidance counsellors and organise information and training days for all employees.
Guests with a form of autism can also enjoy a relaxing stay in the hotels. For example, Two Brothers Noordwijk Beach Hotel allows guests to reserve the relaxing space with a swimming pool and accounts for everyone's wishes. A quiet place in the restaurant to dine, or a hotel room on the top floor, are also part of the possibilities.
