Hotel and High-Rise Buildings at Entry Area Leiden Bio Science Park
Lingotto, a construction developer, is building a new hotel in Leiden Bio Science Park’s (LBSP) entry area. Alderman Fleur Spijker has written as such to the municipality council. According to the vision for high-rise buildings, there is space for such in the entry area of the LBSP, where Lingotto sees possibilities up to seventy metres tall.
According to Lingotto, because of the municipality’s new hotel and catering industry vision, there is space available for a new hotel in the area, increasing the availability of accommodations to two hundred rooms.
The University of Leiden delivered a destination plan which accounted for a maximum building height of forty metres. However, since the proposed building height of seventy metres fits the new policy, the municipality will change the destination plan to allow for this.
The university has worked on plans for a new Sports and Exam Centre (SeTC) in the entry area of the LBSP for the past few years. Eventually, however, this did not prove financially sustainable, so Lingotto will build the centre on the sporting fields near the Campusplein.
The first buildings, designed to hold over seven hundred students, will be built in July. After this, construction will start on the next lot, where the developer will build 160 houses for university staff, 18 homes for starters, and 25 houses for the free sector. The developer will build the entire lot within two years.
