Taxicentrale Eltax: Towards a Cleaner and More Sustainable City Life
Leiden is a compact, densely populated city. It is the most populous city in the Netherlands after The Hague. Also a beautiful historic city. Until the 1980s, many cars still drove through the Breestraat, with the result that historic facades had to be cleaned of soot deposits at regular intervals. For example, that of the monumental town hall. Fortunately, there has been a sharp decrease in motorized traffic in Leidse Breestraat since then. Cars are increasingly banned and the number of buses has also been greatly reduced. These now follow a different route.
Electrification of taxi transport with the Mercedes Benz EQS SUV
The next step is the electrification of commercial transport. Fortunately, there are already quite a few electric buses and freight transport in the city center of Leiden, which must also have zero emissions by 2025. This means that, for example, store supplies but also parcel services and handyman vans must be 0% CO2. Strangely, taxi transport is not included in the Leiden ambition. Fortunately, taxi company Eltax has had electric taxis available on its own initiative since 2016. The latest addition is a Mercedes Benz EQS SUV. A highly comfortable electric car for the business market. This car is truly the absolute top of the current regional taxi market. There are relatively few of these on the road in the Netherlands anyway, but as taxis, they are completely rare.
We are proud that we have been able to make this investment and we are proud that we are helping to make our beautiful city of Leiden a bit more livable and cleaner.
