The ASCL Seminar in Leiden on 6 February 2025 explores the role of objects in the history and power structures of Central Africa, with a focus on containers and ‘obscure capital’.

The ASCL Seminar ‘Obscure Capital and Containers’ on 6 February 2025, held at the Herta Mohr Building in Leiden, the Netherlands, offers insights into the historical and economic significance of objects such as chests and suitcases in Central Africa. Professor Florence Bernault discusses how these objects influence power dynamics and capitalism, both historical and contemporary. The event combines interdisciplinary research with current themes in economic and cultural history.
