Celebrate World's Biodiversity Day at Naturalis Biodiversity Center

| Leiden Convention Bureau

Naturalis Biodiversity Center in Leiden will host a special evening event on Wednesday, May 22, in celebration of the International Day of Biological Diversity. This event marks the first edition of Naturalis Nights, a series of special events organized by Naturalis.

The International Day of Biological Diversity

The International Day of Biological Diversity is a chance to celebrate all living things. Think about a time when you were sitting in nature, surrounded by butterflies joyfully mating, hardworking bees, and all kinds of plants. You and all life on earth make up the term biodiversity. However, this day is not only for celebration but also a valuable moment for reflection. It aims to increase awareness and understanding of biodiversity loss, driven globally by factors such as climate change, invasive species, over-exploitation of natural resources, pollution, and urbanization.

Taste and learn: Biodiversity in your beer

On this evening, visitors are invited to discover nature with a specially crafted evening program around biodiversity. For example, you can taste the vibrant diversity of beer during a delicious beer tasting. Biodiversity isn't just about animals and plants; it also encompasses yeast and bacteria, which are especially important as we need them to brew beer! Researcher Brigida Gallone will expand your knowledge about the significant influence of these little creatures during this tasting.

Many activities!

In addition to exploring the bacteria behind beer brewing, the evening has so much more to offer. You can enjoy an uplifting yoga session inspired by nature or make your own micro preparations with artist and botanist Rob van Es! During this evening, you will also enjoy the sounds of nature provided by DJ DNA from the legendary Urban Dance Squad!
