In times of energy transition, it’s good to see that our branch is also fully going ahead with that transition. In a short while, Van der Linde Catering + Events has supplied their building with solar panels and gotten one step closer to becoming entirely carbon neutral in its production kitchen.

“Last year, we looked into the best and most efficient way to make our building more sustainable. After a renovation of the roof, we were able to place 300 solar panels. In total, we could generate up to 105.000 KWh a year, with which we could compensate 80% of our electrical energy needs. Our kitchen apparatuses, building installations, and cooling- and freezing rooms are wired up to it. Aside from that, all of our gas burners in the kitchen will be replaced with induction plates, which makes using fossil fuels unnecessary.”

Aside from this energy-efficient investment, Van der Linde Catering + Events has been very active in purchasing on a local, sustainable level. With the “De Streekkantine” label, www.destreekkantine.nl, they buy ingredients from a Dutch source, preferably from regional farmers, and only purchase fish species native to the North Sea. With this, the shortest chain of farmer-to-plate has been created. Besides that, the product range has been supplemented with a completely vegetarian and sometimes vegan product range to fulfil the increasing demand and help decrease the impact on the climate brought on by supplying culinary products.

“We’re proud that we can make these steps to keep our trade attractive in a rapidly changing market. Every contribution helps us to achieve a better balance between commerce and welfare for the coming generations,” said Robin van der Schuyt.
