45th Symposium on Old English, Middle English and Historical Linguistics in the Low Countries
"The annual Symposium on Old English, Middle English, and Historical Linguistics in the Low Countries (SOEMEHL) took place at Leiden University. This event provides a platform for researchers from Dutch, Belgian, and increasingly German universities to share their new research in Old English, Middle English, and Historical Linguistics. Leiden University boasts a strong international reputation in medieval English and historical English linguistics dating back to the sixteenth century, with notable scholars such as Bonaventura Vulcanius (1538-1614), who produced the first printed Old English text in the Netherlands, Franciscus Junius (1591-1677), a pioneer in Old Germanic studies, and P.J. Cosijn (1840-1899), the first professor of Old Germanic and Anglo-Saxon at Leiden. Leiden also houses several unique Old English manuscripts, making it an ideal location for a symposium in this field."
